Sailing courses held in English Update 22/2/2012
Encouraged by the last season’s experiences for conducting sailing courses in English, we continue to develop our offerings to English speaking visitors, students, expatriates, and virtually anybody who wishes to learn and sail in beautiful coastal waters of Helsinki.
Kesäpurje, established in 1999, is one of the leading sailing schools in Finland. We offer a wide range of sailing courses and skippered charters in Finland, Mediterranean, and Caribbean. Our school is authorized by the Finnish Sailing and Boating Association, and all of our Sailing Instructors are authorized by the Association of Sailing Instructors in Finland.
Sailing and sailboat chartering is gaining more and more popularity as people are looking for new and rewarding hobbies.
Skills in navigation, seamanship, and safety are essential for all cruisers. Learning the necessary skills early in one’s cruising career is important for increased safety and enjoyment.
We offer sailing courses to beginners as well as for those who have already gained some sailing experience. Our courses run throughout the summer in Finland from several locations. The main base is located in Lauttasaari, Helsinki, at the premises of HSK, Helsingfors Segelklubb.
Sailing is becoming increasingly international activity as people sail and charter yachts abroad and may visit multiple countries during their passages. For those who are not speaking Finnish, we run sailing courses in English. Currently, we offer you three options: (1) Competent Crew Finland sailing course, (2) One day Introduction to Yachting course, and (3) private sailing lessons.
(1) Competent Crew Finland sailing course
The Competent Crew Finland course introduces the beginner to the hobby of sailing aboard a cruising yacht. By the end of the course the participant will have the basic knowledge and skills to be a competent crew member, as well as to take control of a yacht during the day in good conditions.
This means that the participant is able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, and assist in the all basic routines.
The nominal duration of the course is 32 hours, including theory and on board sail training. At the end of the course, the participants will receive a course completion certificate.
We are planning to organize one Competent Crew Finland course in July or August 2012. The date will be announced later in this spring.
(2) Introduction to Yachting course
The Introduction to Yachting course is one day introduction to sailing for complete beginners. The day starts with a short theory session for learning the basic concepts and terminology. By the end of the day participants will have experienced basic tasks such as steering a yacht, sail handling, and ropework.
The course fee is 100 €, including teaching, meals, and insurance.
Introduction to Yachting course dates for 2012 season will be announced later.
(3) Private sailing lessons
Private lessons are for individuals, couples, and teams with limited time available.
The content and schedules are to be agreed separately.
The fee for private lessons is 60 € per hour, minimum of 4 hours.
